In a rapidly changing world, it can be easy to forget the pitfalls of exciting new technology, such as artificial intelligence (AI). There can be many ways that AI may be used for harm, such as voice cloning scams and deepfake videos. But amidst all the disappointment, it would be foolish not to recognize the great impact AI has had on our society, from protein folding to the search for new materials. At the end of the day, the fate of the human race is in our own hands; whether robots will one day dominate society, or merely serve as a functional tool, only time can tell.
